Report: Louisville football to hire Vince Marrow as GM

Louisville football and Jeff Brohm have made quite the interesting hire..

I almost still don’t believe this sentence as I’m typing it, but just reporting the news here, folks: Louisville football is hiring Vince Marrow as its General Manager.

Yes, that Vince Marrow.

The 12-year assistant at The University of Kentucky.

The Twitter assassin.

The king of offseason rumors.

The guy who has been linked to every team but the Yankees.

You likely know him most prominently as the Kentucky coach who speaks his mind on just about anything– Especially when it comes to his destain for his rival team.

So, what exactly led to Louisville football adding Marrow to the staff?

The relationship may have begun to take shape toward the back half of the 2024 college football season. At this time, rumors began to swirl that Marrow was offered a position on Jeff Brohm’s staff in Louisville.

Cards fans weren’t falling for it. They’d heard this story many times before, and Louisville football being associated with Marrow felt kind of weird. Marrow had reportedly turned down positions at Southern Miss, Bowling Green, North Carolina, and others over the years. His flirtations with other schools were often used to leverage contract extensions.

Marrow took to the Lexington airwaves to shoot down rumors back in December.

All was quiet on the Marrow front until the first week of June. Suddenly, the rumors were beginning to surface again.

On Monday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the story. Marrow. Louisville. Done deal.

As Kentucky’s Associate Head Coach, Marrow made $1.3 million annually.

According to Thamel, Marrow is signing a three-year agreement to become the Cards’ General Manager.

Outside of the obvious weird optics, this hire makes a lot of sense.

Marrow is one of the best recruiters in the country and has a stronghold in Ohio, going to bat against heavyweight Big Ten schools for top recruits.

Now, he joins forces with one of the country’s more reputable NIL collectives, which will give an experienced networker and outstanding recruiter a competitive budget to assemble one of the ACC’s most talented rosters for the foreseeable future.

There are a lot of details that are still unknown. But, for now, the impossible has happened.

Headed to Ruby’s now to throw one back for the Big Dawg.
