Former Louisville football wide receiver Jordan Watkins chooses Ole Miss over Florida State, a host of power five schools.
Louisville football wide receiver Jordan Watkins shocked his coaches, teammates, and fan base when he entered the college football transfer portal on November 27th, having played two successful seasons under Coach Scott Satterfield.
In his first season at UofL, Watkins played behind Los Angeles Rams receiver Tutu Atwell. Watkins amassed 57 yards on 9 receptions. His lone score that season was on a 23-yard run. In 2020, he also returned 11 kickoffs for 198 yards.
However, in 2021. Watkins broke out, tallying 529 receiving yards and 4 TDs on 35 catches, including a 76-yard score at NC State.
Watkins was offered by Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin in early December. He took an official visit to Oxford a week later.
Ole Miss boasted one of the nation’s most prolific passing offenses in 2021, and Watkins sees himself primed for success in Kiffin’s system.
A Louisville native and star at Butler High School, Watkins initially committed to Kentucky coming out of high school. However, he flipped his commitment to Louisville on early signing day in 2019 after becoming familiar with the new UofL staff.
Watkins will have more opportunities to utilize his skillset in a how-powered air raid offense in Oxford. A surprising loss for Louisville football turns into a big win for Lane Kiffin and staff late in the early signing period.
