Louisville athletics could have packed venues as early as this summer.
There is not a single person reading this who hasn’t been tremendously effected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if you or those close to you were not impacted by coronavirus, your life was turned upside down over the last 14 months. For Louisville athletics fans and those across the commonwealth, it appears that things may be making a return to normalcy very soon.
After the CDC eased its guidelines on May 13th, Kentucky governor Andy Beshear has rolled out his plan to reopen the state.
While we have been moving toward a return to normalcy over the last month, Beshear also announced that venues and stadiums will soon be able to host events at 100% capacity.
On June 11th, Beshear says, places like Cardinal Stadium, Lynn Family Stadium, and the KFC Yum! Center can return to normal.
Before you get too excited, this is our state leaders saying that we can increase capacities. Still, we will have to await word from the University of Louisville, and perhaps the ACC. It will be up to these institutions to decide if Louisville Athletics can ease restrictions when allowed.
This is obviously incredible news for Louisville fans. There had been speculation that arenas and stadiums would not return to full capacity for years. Although many states have been opened up for months, organizations like the NBA and its franchises have taken the conservative route to return.
By the second week of September, however, it would be a shocker if Cardinal Stadium wasn’t operating under normal conditions. At last, sports with real crowds will be a thing again. We made it.
