Louisville basketball is depending on COVID-related pauses to get into the NCAA Tournament as the first team out.
“It’s been a season like no other. You have to wonder what difference it made for the selection committee” CBS host Greg Gumble said to start the NCAA Tournament selection show. That did not effect another team more than Louisville basketball, who was chosen as the first team out of the tournament.
The Cardinals are Team No. 69. Regardless of how you feel, Louisville basketball will have to have a team be knocked out of the tournament before 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
The Cardinals missed out on 6 games this season, and it appears that the tournament committee has held it against them.
Louisville was picked almost unanimously by experts to be a part of the tournament field.
When asked about the process of how the committee chose UCLA and Michigan State over Louisville, the committee had an interesting explaination. “Well, certainly, pauses have been a part of that consideration,” Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhardt said. He explained that Georgetown and Oregon State unexpectedly winning their conference tournaments were the reason for Louisville being the first team out.
“We played almost 80 percent of the games. In conference, the teams played almost 85 percent of games,” said Barnhardt.
So, now, Louisville basketball waits.
All 68 teams in the NCAA Tournament field must pass COVID tests 7 days in a row before being eligible for the big dance.
it might take some luck, but the Cards may wind up seeing their squad in the NCAA Tournament when all is said and done.
