Five-star shooting guard Elijah Fisher is a strong candidate to reclassify to the class of 2022. Louisville basketball and head coach Kenny Payne are desperate for high-level guards to add to next year’s roster.
Elijah Fisher, the No. 18 overall player in the class of 2023, hails from Toronto and is likely to be playing college or professional basketball this fall. Louisville basketball appears to be seriously interested in his services.
“I think that he needs to move on and based on the conversations I’ve had with (Elijah) he’s ready to move on,” Fisher’s father, Rohan, told Sports Illustrated’s Toronto affiliate. “It’s most likely that we’re probably going to make a decision to make him move up.”
Fisher was even honored at his high school’s senior night earlier this year.
While every outlet says that college is an option (he holds two dozen power five offers), Fisher is a prime candidate to jump to the NBA’s G-League Ignite and has not ruled out playing professionally overseas.
Still, if reclassifying and joining a college team this season is an option, NIL deals under the new NCAA regulations could be a serious draw for Fisher.
That’s where Payne and Louisville basketball come into play.
On Saturday, Payne was slated to be in Orlando for the Nike EYBL. However, he stayed in Indianapolis for the second day of Adidas 3SSB where Fisher has been a standout.
Obviously, UofL is in a little late, but it is important to consider that Payne and assistant Nolan Smith have been plugged in on the recruiting trail.
Louisville basketball might be a new name, but these coaches aren’t new faces.
UofL sorely needs a dominant scorer in 2022-23. Fisher could be the first player to get the ball rolling
This is a recruitment to watch closely over the next couple of weeks.
