Louisville basketball: How Sananda Fru fits in the plans

A great 2025 recruiting class is beginning to come to Fruition for Louisville basketball.

After landing the top point guard in the country, Mikel Brown, in the early signing period, Louisville secured its second commit in German baller Sananda Fru.

Listed at 6’11, 240, Fru appears to be a quality addition to the 2025-26 frontcourt.

Fru is a 21-year- old currently playing for Lowen Braunschweig in Germany Bundesliga.

He has started 17 games for Braunschweig this year, averaging 12 points, 5 boards, 1.3 blocks, while making 75% of his shots.

Sounds kind of a lot like James Scott, no?

Look, we’d all be kidding ourselves here if we tried to make some prognostications before Fru even sets foot on campus.

So, let me tell you what we do know.

Fru is old to just be starting his college journey. He turns 22 this summer.

According to multiple reports, he will have four years of college eligibility.

Fru takes the vast majority of his shots around the basket. So far this season, he is 38 for 48 shooting around the basket. He’s 1-for-8 from 3 and 11-of-18 from the stripe.

In limited highlights, it seems Fru plays much like the aforementioned Scott.

Fru has a ton of length and athleticism. He loves to push the ball up the floor. He’s very spatially aware and loves dunking the hell out of the ball.

He appears super active on defense, showing excellent defensive timing and thwarting a ton of opponent’s shots.

Fru shows excellent basketball instincts and a knack for getting to his spots. He is a very intentional player.

Perhaps the most exciting part of Fru’s game is that he’s surrounded by and playing against legitimate talent.

His front court mate is 2023-24 Kentucky star Tre Mitchell. The division he plays in, Basketball Bundesliga, features stars like Brandon Randolph, Otis Livingston, Darius McGhee, Carsen Edwards, Michael Devoe, and more.

While Fru is sharpening his teeth against some recent college basketball stars, he is only about to get started in the college ranks- One of the many possible oddities of modern college basketball.

Louisville basketball is looking to fit Fru into a rotation that will feature some talented players in 2025-26.

Scott figures to return for his Junior campaign. He will be joined in the front court by currently redshirting super senior Aly Khalifa.

If Kasean Pryor returns for a final year, Fru will be joining a front court loaded with a wealth of talent and experience.

On one hand, that seems like a crowded group. But on the other hand, Louisville has seen how valuable depth truly is during the 2024-25 season.

Sprinkle in a budding Khani Rooths and Louisville is probably set for the season in the front court.

Elsewhere, that group of 5 players will be surrounded by some high-level playmakers. It likely starts with Brown, but don’t discount redshirting point guard Kobe Rodgers and speedy combo guard Koren Johnson.

Guard/forward J’Vonne Hadley has the option to return next season as well.

Don’t look now, but Louisville basketball could be nearing completion of the 2025-26 roster. And it looks quite promising.

Welcome to The Ville, Fru!
