Louisville football lands its fifth commitment of the 2022 class in speedy wide-out Zavion Thomas. How Thomas can contribute for the Cards.
In an offseason that features a ton of players who are flying under the radar, Louisville football is in early on yet another solid class of 2022 receiver.
The Cards received a commitment from speedster Zavion Thomas on Tuesday.
Here is what Thomas can provide for the Louisville football wide receiver room.
Thomas has legit 4.32 speed
The first thing to know about Thomas is that he has elite-level speed. He has been clocked on multiple occasions in the low 4.3 range.
For comparison sake, that is the same as former Louisville football star and current LA Rams WR Tutu Atwell.
Thomas’ speed is evident in-game as well. His ability to just flat outrun defensive backs is special.
A sure-handed receiver
Thomas’ tape is full of plays where he gets behind the defense and then has to hang around and wait for the ball to arrive.
The rising senior has excellent instincts and great timing to go up and catch jump balls.
In many ways, Thomas possesses a lot of the qualities that Louisville’s slot tandem of Atwell and Braden Smith showcased last season.

Multi-faceted, strong slot
Louisville football boasts strong slot receivers in Smith, Jordan Watkins, and incoming freshman Ahmari Huggins-Bruce.
Thomas should fall right in line as the next guy up after Smith’s departure next season.
Watching Thomas’ tape, he is a zone defense buster. He loves to get into the teeth of a defense and just dink and dunk opponents for 4-7 yards. While the focus of Thomas’ game will initially be how speedy he is, it should be noted that he has that Eli Rogers quality about him. Louisville football has been missing a guy who can just be strong with the ball and keep possessions going downfield.
Thomas’ size is much greater than that of Atwell, Smith, or Watkins. He has fantastic lower body strength, fights through tackles, and obliterates oncoming defenders.
Not wanting to take a player with his talent off the field, Thomas’ coaches have him playing some corner as well. He showcases excellent athleticism and aggression on the defensive side of the ball. That seems like the kind of guy you want in the slot.
