Louisville women’s basketball future star Payton Verhulst named to player of the year finalist list.
This week, the 10 semifinalists for the Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Girls’ Basketball Trophy were released. A notable name on that list for Louisville women’s basketball fans to get excited about was class of 2021 signee Payton Verlhust.
Verhulst is one of two signees in the 2021 class for head coach Jeff Walz. She is a 6’1,” five-star guard from De Soto Kansas. Verhulst plays for the Bishop Miege Stags in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

The future Louisville women’s basketball star is the No. 4 ranked guard, and number 12 ranked player in the 2021 class.
Verhulst is a two-sport star at Bishop Miege in basketball and volleyball. She is the reigning 2020 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year, and Naismith Trophy All-American.
What to expect from Peyton Verlhust
This year, Verhulst has led the Stags to an 11-1 record so far and has played at an elite level. The Stags are ranked as the number 1 team in Kansas and 79th nationally by Maxx Preps.
Verhulst is no stranger to recognition. She played on the 2019 FIBA U16 team, and was named the championship MVP.
With the departure of senior guard Dana Evans, I would assume Verhulst will come in and be thrown directly into the rotation. Just like freshman Hailey Van Lith has this season, Verhulst will get the opportunity to hit the ground running.
