Recruiting breakdown: Louisville basketball commit Kaleb Glenn

The questions about Louisville basketball head coach Chris Mack’s ability to recruit at a high level were quieted, if at least briefly, on Friday afternoon.

If you’re a Louisville fan you’re probably more than familiar with Kaleb Glenn, a four-star recruit who calls the Ville his home. Louisville basketball has gone all-in on recruiting the class of 2023 sensation and all of that work finally paid off with a commitment.

Glenn isn’t just any prospect. Because of Glenn’s skill set and high ceiling, he is already a highly sought-after recruit. However, his Louisville ties made him a must-get for the UofL program.

Let’s take a look at what makes Glenn a great get for the Cards and what he brings to the UofL roster in 2023 and beyond.

What to know about Glenn’s game

So, what exactly does Glenn bring to the table?

In short, Glenn provides what Mack loves in his two guards and small forwards. Glenn is a player whose game is in a similar mold to current Cardinals Dre Davis and Mike James. He is already a specimen at 6’7,” 210 pounds, and strong as an ox.

He uses his college-ready frame to bang down low, get into the lane, and finish through contact.

“I like to use my versatility a lot,” Glenn told Jake Weingarten of stockrisers.com. “Depending on the matchup I can shoot the three, take them off the dribble, and also go down low and I’ve got a mid-post game.”

A relentless worker

A broadly built wing with a physical style, Glenn is a monster on his attack and moves well laterally for a prospect of his stature. His frame and athleticism make him a versatile asset on both ends of the floor.

“Glenn is a strong forward who plays comfortably, with the ball in his hands, from the high post and mid-post areas,” Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw said. “He can rip through and get downhill, or face up and knock down the jump shot. Glenn plays with a toughness in straight lines.”

Glenn’s coach at Male, Tim Haworth, calls him “relentless.”

“Kaleb is a relentless worker in and outside of practice. He wants to be the best player in the country and very few have that drive,” Hayworth told 247Sports. “I love his versatility on the court. He is 6-foot-7, can take big guys off the dribble, shoot threes, and punish smaller defenders in the post. I love the fact that he is able to defend multiple positions on the basketball court.”

Coach Hayworth’s comments bring up another reason why Mack and company are stoked about Glenn’s game. He is a massive player with an Adonis-like build. He’s an aggressor, but he possesses the lateral quickness and athleticism at 16-years-old to defend the 2, 3, and 4 spots.

Mack and staff have played guys like JJ Traynor and Quinn Slazinski at the 5 spot and Glenn’s physicality could certainly fit the mold of an undersized defender in the middle.

How Glenn is ultimately used when he arrives on campus will depend on the Louisville basketball roster construct in 2023. There will be a lot of moving parts in the coming years.

“They think I am a great fit,” Glenn told Travis Graff of Rivals. “They want me to be the next hometown guy like David Johnson, Quinten Snider and Ray Spalding. Academics are very important to me and my relationship with the coaches. I watch Louisville play all the time, it feels like home.”

One thing we do know is that Glenn will be a factor right away. A great get for Mack and Louisville basketball to start the ’23 class.
