Second Down: Louisville football depth chart vs Notre Dame

Louisville football enters an important game at Notre Dame banged up. Here is the depth chart, plus some notes on what to watch depth-wise for the Cards.

Quarterback
9 Tyler Shough
10 Pierce Clarkson

Running back
21 Don Chaney
22 Keyjuan Brown
25 Isaac Brown

Donald Chaney is still not at 100 percent but look for the Miami transfer to get the start.

From there, Louisville football has to figure out how to get the ball in Isaac and Keyjuan Brown’s hands.

Right tackle
78 Jonathan Mendoza
60 Rasheed Miller

Right guard
56 Renato Brown or
51 Austin Collins

Center
50 Pete Nygra
59 Vic Cutler

Left guard
68 Michael Gonzalez
73 Madden Sanker

Left tackle
71 Monroe Mills
70 Trevonte Sylvester

Receiver 1
1 Ja’Corey Brooks
24 Ahmari Huggins-Bruce

AHB climbs into the immediate backup spot behind Brooks.

At this point, AHB should be seen as a quasi-starter who will see the field a lot- Especially in 4 and 5 wide sets.

He replaced Antonio Meeks on the two-deep this week.

Receiver 2
0 Chris Bell
7 Jimmy Calloway

Receiver 3
5 Caullin Lacy*
81 Cataurus Hicks
49 Chris Hughes
82 Jahlil McClain

Lacy isn’t listed on this week’s depth chart, but Jadon Thompson is, so I’m going to take this with a grain of salt and give some input here.

Thompson is out for the year after suffering a knee injury against Georgia Tech.

Meanwhile, Lacy appears ready to return from a collarbone injury either this week or next.

I’d guess Lacy gives it a go for one of the more important games of the season.

If it’s not Lacy starting, look for Blue Hicks to get some run.

Tight end
83 Mark Redman
11 Jamari Johnson or
85 Nate Kurisky

Defensive end
9 Ashton Gillotte
41 Ramon Puryear

Defensive tackle
50 Thor Griffith or
93 Jared Dawson

Defensive tackle
99 Dez Tell or
90 Rene Konga
94 Jordan Guerad

Konga works his way up the depth chart after an outstanding showing last week.

One of the best players in the country through four weeks, per Pro Football Focus, Konga has become the 1-2 punch with Dez Tell that we expected Thor Griffith or Jordan Guerad to be.

LEO
19 Tramel Logan
33 Myles Jernigan

Middle Linebacker
34 TJ Quinn
32 Jurriente Davis

Weakside Linebacker
6 Stanquan Clark
15 Dan Foster

Star
35 Antonio Watts
10 Ben Perry

Cornerback
3 Quincy Riley
20 Tayon Holloway

Cornerback

14 Corey Thornton*
23 Taz Nicholson*

It’s really a mystery what Louisville football is going to get out of the corner positions this week.

Corey Thornton played with a hard cast last week but was not his usual self.

Quincy Riley was banged up and had to exit the game multiple times.

Both are considered game-time decisions at this point, but the word is that there is optimism surrounding both starting corners.

Taz Nicholson saw increased playing time in their place, but rumors abound that Nicholson was injured in practice this week.

Tayon Holloway had a massive breakout game a week ago and appears to be the only healthy player on the two deep.

As for where the Cards go if the starters can’t play, it’s a bit up in the air.

Aaron Williams had an outstanding fall camp, but is banged up and unlikely to play.

Does Louisville turn to someone like Tamarion McDonald or Devin Neal?

Let’s hope Thornton and Riley are good to go and we don’t have to find out.

Free Safety
27 Devin Neal
22 D’Angelo Hutchinson

Strong Safety
29 MJ Griffin
12 Tamarion McDonald
