Will YOU play Louisville basketball? Just kidding. Well, not really.
To the delight of fans, Louisville basketball has fielded a pretty solid squad for the 2020-21 season. The Cardinals are off to a 4-0 start under third-year head coach Chris Mack.
Louisville hosted a Multi-Team Event- The Wade Houston Classic- at the KFC Yum! Center last month, and despite some hiccups along the way, the Cardinals got a chance to play four games in eight days. Then, a disruption. Louisville’s COVID bubble was burst when someone within the program tested COVID-19 positive.
This was an unfortunate setback, but not one that was unexpected. I think the most important thing we learned from college football season was that flexibility and very low expectations are the best approaches to take during a worldwide pandemic. The fact that we are playing sports at all is a testament to the sacrifices of players and staff members.
Louisville stopped all team activity on Thursday, December 3rd, and resumed limited practices and meetings on the 10th.
Now, however, Louisville faces its next challenge. The Cardinals pushed back their December 9th Big Ten/ ACC Challenge trip to Wisconsin. The Badgers replaced Louisville with Rhode Island. Currently, there is no known plan for the Cards and Badgers to play anytime soon.
So, next up for Louisville basketball would be its ACC opener against NC State on December 16th. However, the Wolfpack just put its season on hold on Wednesday. With those positive tests coming seven days out from their match-up with Louisville, it’s hard to imagine Louisville and NC State playing on the 16th.
The Cardinals don’t have another game on the schedule after that until December 22nd at Pitt.
Okay, did you get all that?
This means, as things stand now, Louisville basketball would go three full weeks without playing a game. Not great.
So, that’s where we come in.
If there is anyone out there willing to play a game between now and, say, December 20th, hit up the Louisville basketball program!
I’m willing to bet someone on Floyd Street would be all ears.
