Louisville women’s basketball has a lot of roster spots to fill but made an early offseason splash with the addition of former Pac-12 freshman of the year, Jayda Curry.
Jeff Walz and Louisville women’s basketball enter the offseason with many question marks across the roster.
After losing 3 players midseason and 6 more to graduation, the Cards will have to fill at least 9 roster spots. With 0 commits from the 2023 class, Walz will have to construct over half of his roster with players from the transfer portal.
Louisville began adding players in January with the addition of Georgia Tech transfer Elyia Love.
Now, the Cards are taking another step towards solidifying the backcourt with the commitment of former Cal star Jayda Curry.
A native of Corona, California, Curry was the 2021-22 Pac-12 freshman of the year. She went on to lead the Bears in scoring during the 2022-23 season at 15.5 points per game.
Curry dropped 27, 28, 26, and 16 points to finish the season against USC, Utah, Colorado, and Washington State. She also averaged 3.5 rebounds while chipping in a 3.5 to 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The 5’6″ guard finished the season averaging 33.5% from three and 37.9% from the field.
In her rookie season, Curry averaged 18.6 points and 3.7 boards but took on a role and more of a facilitator in her sophomore campaign.
Curry is a high-volume shooter with a quick first step and a polished game finishing around the rim.
She does a great job at squaring up on shots and her quickness and athleticism stand out on the offensive end.
Curry is a great complimentary piece to Love and returning superstar Haily Van Lith at the guard spots. In fact, her stats are very similar to Van Lith’s in her sophomore year (14.4 points, 3.6 reb., 36% from three).
She could fill in as the starting point guard right away with the potential to become the next big Louisville star once the Cards lose Van Lith to graduation.
This addition is a good start toward replacing veterans Mykasa Robinson, Chrislyn Carr, and Norika Konno as well as midseason transfer Peyton Verhulst.
The addition of Curry and Love gives Louisville 8 rostered players with 7 more scholarships to utilize.
And as for the question you may be wondering? Curry. Wears number 30. From California…. No, this Curry is not related to Steph Curry.
However, they have met before.
