Greg Fitzpatrick, father of Louisville football receivers Dez Fitzpatrick and Christian Fitzpatrick, discusses NFL Draft preparation & 2021 season.
For the first time on From The Pink Seats Podcast, Greg Fitzpatrick joined me to talk about a variety of topics relating to his son’s and Louisville football.
It’s hard to believe that Dez has finished his career as a Cardinal, but after five years of being a top-flight receiver, the elder Fitzpatrick is embarking on a professional career. Following a coming-out party of sorts at the 2021 Senior Bowl, Dez has begun to see his NFL Draft stock soar. With pro day’s coming up and the opportunity to run the 40-yard dash, it’s a crucial time for his future.
The Senior Bowl is built for players like Dez, and as Greg told me on the show, this was an opportunity they hoped would come. All you need is an opportunity, and that’s exactly what the week of playing with NFL coaches in front of scouts was for Dez. A big week of practice, which turned heads amongst the NFL draft community, led to an even bigger game. Targeted 11 times, Dez finished with a game high 6 receptions for 90 yards. That locked up the Offensive Player of the Game for the national squad.
That recognition was no surprise to Greg, as he saw first hand what preperation and hard work went into the week.
What’s next for Dez Fitzpatrick
There’s still a lot of draft process remaining things are far from settled. With COVID still lingering, the normal combine will look much different this season and the effect remains to be seen. The 40-yard dash is going to be crucial and could be what ultimately determines which round Dez hears his name called.
Where Dez could end up? Well, that obviously remains to be seen. But what would the father of a NFL Draft prospect want to see?
