In the second part of the Louisville Football Season in Review series, From The Pink Seats Podcast hosts its first-ever award show; The Freakies.
Despite the season not going the way most expected, there wasn’t a better time to re-introduce the Freakies.
You may be asking yourself, what the hell is a Freaky? That’s a valid question.
The concept is one centered around the hit award show from The Office, “The Dundies.” Instead of handing out traditional awards like “MVP, Best QB, Best Newcomer, and all the standard awards you hear year to year, we did our best to switch it up.
The term “Freak” has been synonymous with Louisville football the last few seasons, thanks to the head of the freaks, Gunter Brewer. While he may be headed off to Maryland, his love for freaks led to the inspiration of the “Freakies.”
To help hand out our awards we were joined by a handful of guests, including local media personalities, former players, and even a coach or two. We presented 11 trophies in all.
Awards included:
- The Daryl Isaac Award (Given to the heaviest hitter) – Presented by Presley Meyer
- The Beefiest Beef Award (Given to the most dominant lineman) – Presented by Biggest Biscuit (Dave Scull)
- The Bilal Powell Nothing From Something Award (Given to the most suprising/jaw dropping play) – Presented by Mike Rutherford
- The Football Guy Award (Given to the player who can’t be defined by a position) – Presented by Cam Teague
- The Scott’s Tot Award (Given to the top first year player) – Presented by Robbie Bell
- The Who Is That Award (Given to the player who made big plays without much name recognition) – Presented by Cardinal Strong
- The Working Fools Award (Given to the coldest fan-driven narrative) – Presented by James Streble
- The SportsCenter Not Top 10 Award (Given to the biggest goof of the year) – Presented by Matt McGavic
- The Old Man Award (Given to the top graduate/super senior) – Presented by Mason King
- The Freakiest Play Award (Given to the top play of the year) – Presented by Vince Lococo
- Freak of the Year (Team MVP) – Presented by Gunter Brewer
