Former Louisville football offensive lineman Jake Smith joined From The Pink Seats Podcast to talk NIL and his time as a Cardinal.
In this episode of From The Pink Seats Podcast, former Louisville football offensive lineman Jake Smith joined Jacob Lane and Matt McGavic to talk through a number of topics. After a successful playing career from 2010-2014 Smith set out to create a successful career in his post football life. He did so with a passion to help student-athletes be able to profit off of their own name, image, and likeness, something that has become a hot button topic in college sports.
Back in his playing days, Smith was unable to capitalize off his own name. While he knew he wasn’t likely to sell jersey or individually put butts in seats, he saw teammates and close friends who came from low income areas be taken advantage of.
Now serving as an attorney for Wyatt, Tarrant, and Combs, Smith is working with businesses, entrepreneurs, collectives, non-profit organizations, and even student athletes on crafting business contracts; some pertaining to N.I.L. deals. Smith talks through the legal side of NIL, including the anti-trust laws that kicked off the movement of NIL.
Then the guys dive into Smith’s playing career at Louisville, discussing what it was like playing for Charlie Strong and alongside Teddy Bridgewater. Plus, don’t miss a great conversation on the Sugar Bowl, including a few stories you haven’t heard yet.
