Where to go in Louisville: Ranking the top 5 pizza joints

Next on our tour of go-to culinary spots in Louisville, we rank the only thing more controversial than burgers: Pizza.

If there is one thing that people universally love, it is pizza. I enjoy the pizza scene and like to think Louisville has a wide variety of pizzas around the city.

Why go to Chicago or New York for pizza when Louisville is just as good when it comes down to the variety of slices of pie.

Louisville has cultivated a blossoming restaurant scene, and the pizzas available are no exception to the rule.

Here are my top five best pizza spots in The Ville.

  1. Impellizzeri’s Pizza

When I think about pizza, Impellizzeri’s is the first that comes to mind.

Are you really from Louisville if you have not had pizza here? Gooey fresh-made cheese, fresh sausage, and light on the sauce.

This is Louisville-style pizza at its best. There are 3 locations across the city and it is a must-have if you are around town.

2. Wick’s Pizza Parlor

Wick’s is another place that does pizza exceptionally well.

You will be full just by eating 1 slice of their pizza with so many toppings and lots of cheese.

The Big Wick Pizza is a favorite here. They also have solid sandwiches and pasta at their two locations.

3. Bearno’s Pizza

Piled high with fresh toppings and a superb crust, Bearno’s is one of the best in the city.

A favorite here is the Mama Bearno’s pizza. A pizza loaded with all of the fixings and some of the best mozzarella cheese.

Bearno’s also has exceptional salads and pasta across a multitude of locations.

4. Sicilian Pizza & Pasta

Sicilian Pizza reminds me of pizza from New York, if not better than pizza from the Big Apple.

Fresh cheese and toppings with a tasty flavor on the crust.

You cannot go wrong with the chicken wings as well.

Sicilian is another place where you will get full just from 1 or 2 slices. There are 2 Sicilian locations in the city.

5. Emmy Squared Pizza

Detroit style pizza is what Emmy Squared in Nulu does best.

Square shape with a crispy bottom, fluffy dough, and a cheesy crust.

My favorite pizza from Emmy Squared is the Big Ang; A pizza with house-made vodka sauce, ricotta cheese, double pecorino, meatballs, and banana peppers. Out of this world with flavor.

Emmy Squared also has an award-winning cheeseburger. There is 1 location in the city.
