Louisville football star QB Malik Cunningham joins From The Pink Seats to preview fall camp and the 2022 season.
Already being named to the Davey O’Brien and Walter Camp Award Watch Lists, receiving relatively favorable Heisman Trophy odds, and being mentioned as potential first round pick in the 2023 – it’s clear returning was the right decision for Louisville football QB Malik Cunningham. The redshirt senior joined Jacob Lane, Matt McGavic, and his former teammate Vince Lococo on From The Pink Seats Podcast to talk about the offseason, personal growth & goals, and the 2022 season.
Following the disappointing 2021 season, Louisville football’s long-time starting QB knew he had a tough decision to make. Come back to Louisville for one final run. Jump to the NFL and begin making money as a professional, regardless of not having a ton of draft stock. Or, enter the transfer portal and look for a big name, blue blood program with deep pockets and NIL deals. He decided to return to the Cards, and in the episode he talks about how he came to that decision and what it means for his future.
Knowing the Cards have their backs up against the wall, Cunningham knows what’s on the line.
That’s what’s led him to step up his leadership of the team and ensuring he’s doing all he can to win. That includes waking up daily at 6:00 AM to throw with his receivers, ensuring in spring that he didn’t run while focusing on “layups” as well as being the overall voice of the team. He’s also worked endlessly on improving his defensive reads, short & quick game passing, as well as his footwork and being able to throw on the run.
Cunningham chatted with the guys for 30+ minutes breaking down everything from naps at fall camp, to building rapport with Tyler Hudson & his new weapons, adding to his passing repitore and improving decision making, taking ownership of leadership, ACC ish-talking, and so much more!
