Starting Five02 Podcast: Double Tap Triangle & Go

Starting Five02 host Presley Meyer is joined by Jack Grossman and Jacob Lane to chat Louisville basketball, Kenny Payne’s first season, and college basketball’s championship contenders.

The college basketball season is quickly approaching and while there hasn’t been much news around the Louisville basketball program, there was still plenty to talk about on the Starting Five02 Podcast.

ESPN Louisville Producer Jack Grossman and State of Louisville Co-Founder Jacob Lane join Presley Meyer to talk about Kenny Payne’s offseason, how the Cards will have to play in order to win short-handed, El Ellis, Kamari Lands, style of play, Sydney Curry & Jae’Lyn Withers, and so much more.

With only one true guard on scholarship for 2022 it’s obvious Payne is going to deploy a unique style of basketball in his first season. The guys discuss the first KP roster including it’s lack of guards and who could help Ellis in complimentary roles, as well as why the style of play will have to be carefully crafted in order to win at a high level. A lot will fall on the shoulders of big man Sydney Curry, who gave Louisville fans a ton to be excited about down the stretch of 2022. They talk through how defenses could target Curry, why one area of his game will have to improve significantly, and how Payne will develop other big men, like Rose Wheeler & Brandon Huntley-Hatfield around him.
