Louisville football landed one of its best recruits ever, and he has a simple message for Cards fans heading into UofL’s biggest recruiting weekend ever.
Louisville football is hosting 11 four-stars and nearly 50 recruits overall this weekend.
The Cardinals and head coach Scott Satterfield started off the weekend in the best way possible- by landing a commitment from one of the best recruits in program history.
We are still 10 months away from the early signing period, but as things stand now, 2023 quarterback commit Pierce Clarkson is the 6th-highest rated commit in program history- just ahead of Teddy Bridgewater.
Clarkson’s family recently purchased 13 billboards across the city that display a simple message:
“Dear Louisville, I’m home. Let’s build something special together. Love Pierce Clarkson.”
A perfect segue into a period where NIL and national brand recognition will drive the college sports recruiting machine.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke down why Clarkson and his family chose Louisville football and why the billboards show a commitment to change the state of the program.
“In the macro scope, the decision also reflects the changing landscape of college football amid a transformative time. Louisville is well-positioned as a fertile program to leverage new rules that allow athletes to profit off their Name, Image, and Likeness. Clarkson’s early commitment and public fidelity to Louisville have been done with the hopes of helping lure a top 2023 recruiting class to the school to push the program into the elite.
Clarkson’s father, noted quarterback tutor Steve Clarkson, paid to put up the billboards around Louisville to show how serious they are about their commitment to the school and what they hope to help build there.”
On the field, Louisville football sees Clarkson as the future of the program- The guy that the coaching staff wanted, prioritized, and hopes to groom as the next big thing.
The 6’0,” 195-pound Clarkson was part of a duo that replaced Clemson star DJ Uiagalelei and shared snaps in his team’s 6 games this past season.
Clarkson held known offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Central Florida, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, NC State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, UNLV, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Washington State. Notre Dame, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Miami, West Virginia, and Arizona State were also in the mix.
Louisville football is just getting started, but the addition of Clarkson gives the Cardinals another strong piece in the 2023 class that also features 6’5″ edge rusher Adonijah Green.
An unreal start to a crucial recruiting week for the Cards.
