Louisville football: Newest offensive line duo “only the start” of something massive

Newest Louisville football commits Jordan Church and Luke Burgess are only the start of what should be the best offensive line class in school history.

Louisville football did the early leg work to land a number of top skill position players, including a top-5 QB, running back, and wide receiver.

Now, the Cards are looking to cement their legacy up front by beating out some of the best programs in the country for players in the trenches.

New Louisville football commit Luke Burgess would have been one of the crown jewels of the 2022 recruiting class- And any class prior for that matter.

On Sunday, Burgess became the sixth-highest rated of a twelve-man group. Yet, the 6’8″ 295-pound monster would be the highest-rated offensive lineman to ink with the Cards since 2009.

Jordan Church, a long-time Louisville lean, is the lowest-ranked player in the current class. At 1,104th in the class, Church becomes a name that, statistically, may be glossed over at first.

However, Church would have been a much-talked-about player in any class prior. With names like Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida State, Pitt, and others in the mix, the Cards led the way for his services for months.

Church stands out on film as one of the best finishers of players in this offensive line class. His constant motor and loaded frame are indicative of a player who should easily become a power five starter.

What has quickly become ho-hum in the summer of 2022 would have generated substantial buzz in any previous year. That is how rapid of an ascent Louisville football has taken on the recruiting trail over the last 7 months.

Burgess was, and will continue to be, pursued hard by North Carolina, Michigan State, Kentucky, Tennessee, and a host of top-tier schools. Church’s recruitment will still progress as well.

However, this offensive line duo is the first in a group of players expected to solidify the trenches in this class over the coming weeks.

Top 100 lineman Madden Sanker has long been a Louisville lean. Koby Keenum has strong ties with the staff and ’23 class as well.

Looking back on the 2023 class years down the road, we may remember Burgess and Church as two of the most important dominoes to fall on the way to a continued program rebuild.

As Burgess told Clint Cosgrove of Rivals.com, “Be ready, this is only the start.”
