Louisville women’s basketball 2022-23 non-conference schedule

Louisville women’s basketball releases non-conference schedule. Key takeaways from the initial release.

The 2021-22 season was a miraculous one for the Louisville women’s basketball team

First, they gained a share of their fourth straight regular season conference championship. Then, they made a tournament run to their fourth Final Four under head coach Jeff Walz.

On the road to the Final Four, the Cards played a murderer’s row of a non-conference schedule.

The Cards began last season on a neutral floor against national runner-up Arizona. Louisville also played ranked Michigan at home, UK at home, and UCONN on a neutral floor.

This season’s non-conference schedule isn’t the strength it was last season but does still have some tough teams to test the Cards.

Let’s go ahead and go through the schedule and see how the Cards will face this season.

November Schedule

The Cards kick their season off with a pair of home games. The first game will be against a familiar foe, Cincinnati. Louisville has faced the Bearcats 64 times in their history with the last being a 24-point Cardinal win in 2014.

Next up for the Cards will be IUPUI. Louisville and IUPUI have faced each other 6 times with the Cards winning all 6 games. Their last matchup was an 11-point Cardinal win in 2015.

Louisville then hits the road for the first time this season to face Belmont. The Cards are 4-0 against Belmont with their last win being a 26-point victory last season.

Louisville will head to Paradise Island November 19-21 to compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis. While the Cards do not know the 3 opponents they will face yet, there is some tough competition heading to the Bahamas with them.
The field in the Bahamas consists of Louisville, Tennessee, UCLA, Rutgers, Gonzaga, South Dakota State, Texas, and Marquette. The Cards faced both Gonzaga and Tennessee on their road to the Final Four last season. South Dakota State won the WNIT Championship last season.

Louisville will come home from the Bahamas for a 2 game home stand to end the month of November. The Cards’ first game will be against Longwood and will be the first meeting between the two teams.

Louisville will close out November as they compete against Ohio State in the ACC/B1G Challenge. The Cards and Buckeyes have played three times with the last being an Ohio State win in 2019.

December Schedule

Louisville kicks December off on the road against Middle Tennessee State. The Cards are 6-1 against the Blue Raiders with their last matchup being a 54-point Cardinal win in 2017.

Louisville will play its final home game of the nonconference on December 6th against SIUE. This will be the first matchup between the Cards and Cougars.

Louisville will finish the nonconference on a three-game road stretch. The first will be the Battle of the Bluegrass as the Cards travel to Lexington to face UK. The two teams have played 56 games in the rivalry with the Cards being on a 5-game win streak. The Cards won the meeting last year by 6 points.

Louisville will then travel across town to their old arena, Freedom Hall, to face crosstown foe, Bellarmine. The Cards and Knights have played 14 times, with the Cards winning the last meeting by 57 points last season.

Louisville will close out the nonconference in Chicago against DePaul. The Cards and Blue Demons have faced off 33 times with the last being a 41-point Cardinal win in 2020.

The Louisville women’s basketball team is looking to have another special season. While some of the names aren’t as big as they have been in the past, the Cards will still face some adversity

Louisville’s conference schedule should be released later this month.

Alyx White and I will also break the nonconference slate down a little more on the next edition of the Off The Walz Podcast.
