Quick takeaways after Louisville basketball roster release

Louisville basketball released its official roster on Monday. A few quick takeaways.

Louisville basketball was the last team in the ACC to release its roster.

We know that head coach Kenny Payne and his staff have been tight-lipped over what goes on behind the scenes. While we have known for some time what the UofL roster would look like, we have to find tidbits of information from little breadcrumb trails left by the staff and administration.

We are talking about Keith Wynne-levels of analysis of hype videos, who is following who, who likes what, and what rumors may or may not be true.

However, it’s nice to have some tangible, factual information on the UofL roster.

You can find the full roster here.

Feast your eyes:

Let’s take a look at some small changes that I will think way too much about over the next few months.

Number Changes

The returnees all come back with the same numbers.

Get used to these new Cardinals numbers:
Devin Ree (0)
Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (5)
Fabio Basili (11)
Hercy Miller (15)
Kamari Lands (22)
Zan Payne (23)
Aidan McCool (33)

Payne is not listed on the pictured version of the roster.

Mike James shrank an inch

But he gained 20 pounds. He was listed at 6’6, 195-pounds last season.

Fabio is listed at 6’4, 175-pounds

Most recent roster addition Fabio Basili was rumored to have sprouted up a few inches in recent months.

Basili is listed at 6’4, up an inch from his listed height via major recruiting services.

JJ Traynor lost 10 pounds?

Saw him in person this summer at his basketball camp. I don’t think I believe this.

Sydney Curry gained 10 pounds

He was 300+ when he arrived at Louisville. I’d imagine 10 pounds of muscle is a good thing for the Cards.

Again, who knows how truly accurate all of this stuff is. We are going with what we’ve got.

Curry and Ellis are listed as Juniors

Perhaps an oversight. Perhaps an extra COVID-year miracle. It’s hard to keep track at this point.

I thought Curry and Ellis were both considered seniors. Here’s to hoping they stick around 2 more years.

Kamari Lands a 6’8 guard?

We keep hearing talk about Kamari Lands being one of the primary ball-handlers.

Given that he struggled as a driver and was more of a slasher or a guy who could create his own shot in high school, it’s hard to believe that Lands may be running the point.

However, that sounds freaking awesome if UofL thinks he’s ready.
