Louisville women’s basketball: Getting to know future Card Zyanna Walker

Getting to know Louisville women’s basketball 2022 point guard commit Zyanna Walker.

The fourth installment of Louisville women’s basketball commits is with point guard Zyanna Walker.

Walker is out of Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, Kansas. Walker comes to Louisville as the number 30 overall recruit, and number 8 point guard according to ESPN. On July 13th Walker made her verbal commitment to the Cards via her Twitter account.

Walker tore an ACL two seasons ago ending her sophomore season early. Last season Walker tore her meniscus in the same knee, ending her second season in a row prematurely.

Here is ESPN’s analysis of Walker’s game: “Athletic combo-guard manufactures shots, confident delivery in mid-range game to the arc; strong, physical off the dribble gets to the rim with regularity; handles and distributes with purpose in uptempo; a power-5 prospect.”

I got a chance to catch up with Walker recently and asked her a few questions before signing day.

BT: How would you best describe your playing style?

ZW: “I would best describe my playing style as being a great scorer who can score at all three levels.”

How is the knee doing and are you fully cleared to play now?

“My knee is great and I am fully cleared to play”

What are you looking to work on during your senior season?

“I need to improve a lot in my game, but the main focus will be defense. I will be guarding some of the best players in the country.”

What are your expectations for your team this season?

“This season I can see my team going all the way and winning state”

What most appealed to you about UofL?

“How honest and straightforward the coaches were. They didn’t try to sugarcoat anything. Just told it how it is.”

Have you gotten to know many of your future teammates?

“I have gotten to know some of my future teammates. They were really nice, and I talked to them a little on the visit.”

Have you talked to any of your fellow commits much?

“I haven’t met them in person, but I have been able to talk to them briefly through social media. They seem cool, and I can see us doing big things.”

What do you like to do outside of basketball?

“Outside of basketball I like to hang out with my friends and chill. I also like to play video games.”

What do you have on your playlist to get you hype before a game?

“I listen to all types of music before a game. It really just depends on how I’m feeling. Most likely listening to some Youngboy if it’s rap. I also listen to R&B sometimes before I play.”

How is it going to feel that first home game when you walk out on the court in front of 9,000 screaming fans?

“It’s going to be incredible. It’s something I will never forget! Exciting, but there are some nerves too.”

Are there any last words or a message you want to leave for Cards fans?

“To the Cards fans out there I just wanna say that I’m going to be working extremely hard on and off the court. Gonna rack up lots of wins in my time there!!!”
